We’re making big changes to our electricity system to support decarbonisation efforts across the country, helping homes and businesses adopt low-carbon energy solutions.
These changes mean significant investment and upgrades to our Transmission network. As we prepare our next Transmission Business Plan (RIIO-T3) for the period 2026 to 2031, we need to take account of the rapid pace of change in the industry. This can lead to some uncertainty of the details of our plans as we look ahead into the next decade and beyond.
Planning for future needs is called Strategic Investment and Ofgem have defined this as “as proactive investment that helps to manage uncertainty for future load and non-load requirements on TOs’ local networks”.
Striking this balance is an important aspect of our investment plan for the RIIO-T3 period and we are seeking your views on our approach to Strategic Investment.
The consultation document provided explains how we decide if Strategic Investment is appropriate for any specific project and how we assess the options. Please use the this survey to respond to any of the questions included within that.
